Good to know
No password, no recoveryThe password is the only key. There is no reset, no security question, no backdoor, so lose it and the file is gone. Store it somewhere safe and separate.
Test decrypting before deleting the originalConfirm you can decrypt the result with your password before removing the source. That proves the password and the file are both good.
Strength rests on your passwordA short or common password is quick to crack no matter the algorithm. Use a long, unique passphrase.
Send the password by another channelIf you share the file, do not send the password the same way. Use a separate channel so one leak does not expose both.
